Family Of Apostles (revised 7-28-2011)

Did you know that Jesus chose 3 pairs of
brothers, a father and son, along with 4
other disciples?

I. 3-Pairs Of Blood-Brothers
A. Two Brothers:
1) Simon Peter, also called Cephas
2) Andrew, brother of Simon Peter
Simon Peter, son of Jona (see John 1:42)
and his brother Andrew, who were from
the city of Bethsaida.

B. Two Brothers:
3) James, son of Zebedee, brother of John
who was martyrd by Herod Agrippa the King
(Act 12:2); also known as: James the Less
4) John, son of Zebedee, brother of James
James and his brother John were sons of
Zebedee, surname called Boanerges, which
is, The Sons Of Thunder.

C. Two Brothers:
5) Matthew (the publican), aka, Levi,
the tax collector; son of Alphaeus (Mark 2:14)
6) James, the son of Alphaeus; also
known as James the Lessor
Two sons of Alphaeus

II. Four Non-Family Related Disciples
7) Philip, was from the city of Bethsaida,
same as Peter and Andrew.

8) Bartholomew; possible aka: Nathanael
of Cana in Galilee (John 21:2)

9) Thomas, surname called Didymus
(see John 11:16)

10) Lebbaeus, surname called Thaddaeus;
possible aka, Judas, brother of James
(see IV.(2) BELOW); (Matthew 10:3;
Mark 3:18; Acts 1:13)

III. Father and Son:
11) Simon (the father)
Simon was called Zelotes; same as Simon
the Canaanite. Zelotes were also called Zealots.
12) Judas (the son) surnamed Iscariot
The Traitor

IV. Family Followers
1) James, the LORD's brother (Gal 1:19)
2) Jude or Judas, brother of James (perhaps
also known as Lebbaeus, or Thaddaeus)
3) John Mark, cousin to Barnabas
